Mission

Music Education
Based firmly on the premise that all Catholics are called to actively participate in the liturgy, the SCSC endeavors to teach youth grades K-12 how to sing properly, read melodies and rhythms and understand basic music theory.  Though a highly organized graduated curriculum included written homework and final exams, choristers also acquire skills like parts-singing, liturgical understanding and Latin pronunciation, that will give them the confidence to sing out fully, joyfully and confidently in liturgies throughout their Catholic lives. The Saint Cecilia Schola Cantorum is not just a choir to sing pretty songs. It is a musical class for young Catholics that changes lives.

Choristers participate in a graduated introduction to the basic principles of music theory, music reading, ear training, and vocal technique through a structured curriculum of in-class workshops and weekly written homework.

Liturgical Ministry
The St. Cecilia Choir is responsible for leading the congregation in music at multiple Masses during the school year.  It is critical that each chorister endeavor to attend all of these Masses.

Catholic Catechesis
Rehearsals begin and end with prayer. Class material is presented in a Christian context; music texts will be discussed from a Catholic perspective. Choristers will learn liturgical pieces from the rich tradition of Church music including Gregorian chant.
